Xmas Song Blog

New Christmas season, new Killers Christmas song. It's not their best effort (to our mind that's Christmas in L.A. despite what NME say ) but we commend their commitment to the Christmas song cause. It's available now via iTunes and all the best online music stores and of course all the proceeds go to the charity  (red) . Also out a couple of weeks ago was Amazon's Christmas playlist . There's Langhorne Slim's  Deck the Halls , although that's too cheery for it's own good and doesn't really suit the singer. Then there's SOAK who was last week nominated for a Mercury award. She gives a pretty straight version of  The Christmas Waltz . She's stripped back the production and it works really rather nicely. Elsewhere there is Guided by Voices singer Robert Pollard with a suitably lo-fi outing on  What begins on New Year's Day  and Turin Breaks (remember them?) doing their turn on New Year's Day Dammit people my advent calender...

Hey were back, been a long year and I'm sorry we are starting kinda late but we've been having computer issues in xmassongblog towers...... but then it's been a rather slow start to the xmassong season. We only cover the biggest most exciting indie releases on xmassongblog so whilst alot of our friends have plenty to put up we don't have much to show so far this season. Phoenix promised but now seem to have taken away their xmassong with Bill Murray. I'm still hopeful but not holding my breath. Then of course the Killers are going to releasing a new xmassong. All we know so far is that it will be called Dirt Sledding and it will as always be raising funds for the  (red)  charity. Finally some good news of a confirmed single we can actually listen to. The Courteeners have stepped in with Winter Wonderland. It's not the classic song but a whole new tune. It's a downbeat song alluding to the difference between the idea and the reality of fresh snow and/or a ...

Daisy Digital released their Christmas Compilation today in aid of coppafeel the breast cancer charity. It's a corker with songs from Luke Sital-Singh, Marika Hackman, a brand new xmas tune from Slow Club aswell as Summer camp, Gabrielle Aplin and Lucy Rose amongst others. Check it out here. and check out Marika Hackman's lovely version of O' Come O'Come Emmanuel. For those who don't know Luke Sital- Singh he produced one of my favourite songs of the year in bottled up tight.it's not Christmassy but have a listen anyways.

I only post tunes here from bands that I've heard of and to be honest I'd never heard of the Dum Dum girls before they released Merry Xmas, Baby (Please Don't Die) their collaboration with Crocodiles a few years back, but I liked it and since then they've released a number of great tunes. This year they've released "On Christmas" a track recorded at Converse's rubber tracks project and part of their "Noise to the World 2" compilation. Listen to it below and download for free too. :) Also I've had an email from the Magic Numbers. They are releasing a Christmas song to coincide with their Christmas tour. More info when they give it.

We've been previewing it on our Twitter Feed @xmassongblog but now the video is released and at least for the US it's been released. It's in aid of (RED) the aids charity. Released on world aids day check the wiki now and we'll post the links to buy for this good cause when the songs released over here in the UK. Until then watch the making of the song and then animated video below.   And you can check out all the previous Christmas songs from the Killers in this handy playlist below.

Is someone building up a repertoire for a future Christmas album? Maybe but for now I'm just happy to have Lisa Hannigan's version of The Christmas Waltz. Her second Christmas release of the year, it's a lonley reflective version but pretty it's it's own sweet way and Hannigan's voice can still break a heart at 30 paces. Buy it now from Bandcamp and all proceeds raised from the sale of this track will go directly to Simon Community to help tackle homelessness in Ireland. For whatever reason I can't embed the track but check it out here .   The Christmas Waltz by Lisa Hannigan
